1 year older and the Birthday Cake that never was

In two hours i'm turning 23. My grandma told me that i'm growing up and wishes that I "make it" by 25. She said it in a slightly condescending tone, quite sad actually. It bothered me a bit because those same words I heard from her was a constant reminder on how I have not made it in life, that I could possibly not be good enough right now. It was pretty innocent though, more of wishful thinking I assume. I was thinking about it...this whole idea of trying to prove to everybody around me how i'm measuring or not measuring up. It seems to me that even if I do reach everybody's expectations, most of the time it just doesn't matter because there are more expectations along the way. It's an unending cycle of diffused reality. You reach one, you lose some. It never was good enough.

I'm turning 23, I have not tried drugs, I don't smoke, I'm pursuing what i'm passionate at and I try to be a better person as I mature. By golly you know what, I HAVE MADE IT!!!. I've made it all along. Years from now I may come upon this blog again, read it and reflect. I hope this becomes a constant reminder to me that not everything in life should be measured in success but by the enjoyment of the journey to get there. If all along I was trying to beautify the entry door of my house, I may forget that I have to walk a couple of steps to get there and that path, no matter how narrow it is, should serve to enhance my experience all along. If I truly believe that I'm good enough then I am.

My birthday wish is further enjoyment of life, constant pursual of my passions and world peace. So Cheers and Happy Birthday to me! I am so proud of me for a successful year! and Here! Here! to years ahead!
