Project Runway 2 and Asian Pride

long before that stupid Tommy Hilfiger knock-off show aptly named "The Cut" was cut, Project Runway was the shit. I knew from the get-go that this show is amazing, inspirational, informational and very individual. My only concern the first season was the lack of Asians and/or Asian-American participation. As we all know, and as the world knows, Asian talent in fashion design is bar none some of the greatest out there (Yohji Yamamoto, Kenzo, Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcons, Hanae Mori, Issey Miyake and Vera Wang to name a few). There is so much to be said about non-western ideals and perception of beauty that needs to be recognized here in the west. Asian designs are fresh, meaningful, enigmatic, deeply-rooted in their cultural upbringings and very much fashion-forward. So I was so ecstatic that there's 2 prominent Asian-Americans in Project Runway 2: Chloe Dao (young, hip, trendy, classy) and Diana Eng (futuristic, post-modern, experimental, analytical). Wish 'em the best.

Project Runway 2 premieres this Wednesday, 12/7/05 at 10pm/9c on Bravo.
